I guess it's the colloquial expressions i find hard to understand but reading english newspapers (especially columns and reviews) is a hard feat.whew Anyway this sentence has been bugging me. 'First came the soaring ascent of online social networking sites and now comes old fashioned soul searching about a sprawling universe where staid advertisements can scrape up against profiles of giddy young professionals and pages devoted to self-proclaimed angry 'straight, white men' The highlighted part is especially giving me a headache;;;;;; Thanx guys. Do you think that sentance is really hard????????

To find out real meaning of any perticuular word let me tell you any simple trick.to understand the hard sentnce. Do not look at perticular word keep reading if you are not understanding even, and when yop stop rending sentnce try and and understadn easy part first then see the miracle you will understnd whole sentnce and meaning also. This is the esaist way, seee frnd there are many words in english and you can not find out or guess the meanig of each one so relax and go via this suggested step. I am sure you will get the thing ou are looking for. Hope for the best.thanks byee regards amardeep.

A friend of mine just wrote the same topic, so I want to tell you what type of sentences are difficult for me this time. I'm reading 'The BGF' by Roald Dahl. What some of the sentences are saying, quote; 'You would be scuddling around yodelling the news', 'They would be putting me into the zoo or the bunkumhouse with all those squiggling hippodumplings and crocadowndilies.' OK, all the difficult words are made up by him, I think. Children's books are more difficult than books for adults. By the way, she came back!

It seems she would never learn her lessens, eh? She was arrested by one of my police officers and banned out of this site, and then with using her new account she says, 'How do I find out who reported me here?'

On the second thought, I just wrote about her but didn't report her, so she'll forgive me. I'm on the train so I'll do a proper correction later when I have access to a PC. Just to let you know, Roald Dahl is one of my favourite writers and I've read all of his books. My favourite ones are The Twits and The Minpins.

I'm so crazy about him that I've even been to his house and sat on his writing chair for hours just so I could feel his presence. I'm surprised to see you reading his stuff. Although they are for kids, they are not easy at all because he's famous for making up words. But kids love that because at that stage they'd still experimenting with their own language and so Dahl really fires their imagination. It's as if Dahl speaks their language. Can I suggest another author for you - Neil Gaiman. I love all his books, especially Coraline.

His genre is mainly gothic horror and his fanbase is mainly older teenagers and young adults, plus older adults like me who refuse to grow up. His writing is simple, understated and beautiful. I've met him in a book signing session and he's sooooooo lovely in person!

Difficult To Read Sentences

God, don't get me started with books. I just won't shut up!

See you later!. Wow I’ve found a big fan of his here! I've read 'Charlie and the Chocolate factory', 'Enormous Crocodile', 'Esio Trot ( Minpins?)', 'Fantastic Mr.Fox', 'Gorge's Marvelous Medicine', 'Giraffe and the Pelly and Me', 'Magic Finger', 'Matilda', 'Twits'. Hmm I've read a lot. Lol I'm so crazy about him that I've even been to his house and sat on his writing chair for hours just so I could feel his presence. How could you call yourself 'goody-two-shoes'!

LOL It's like Bruce Springsteen, right? He's so crazy about Elvis Presley that he tried to climb up his house hedge and got caught by the police.

Can I suggest another author for you - Neil Gaiman. I've never heard of his name. I'll try his books someday. I'll definitely love them as I'm a grown up child, tooooooooo!.

If you have a chance to come to London, go to a shop called The Forbidden Planet (London WC2). In the basement is all sorts of cult novels and you'll meet lots of cool people and famous authors, as they do fan meetups and book signings. You'll get to meet crazy people and geeks like me.

OK, I admit now, I'm a words and books geek. You can't shut me up once you start talking about my favourite authors (Roald Dahl and Neil Gaiman). Neil (oh, I call him by his first name now!) is very good looking as well! His English is very good. He writes in a style that I try to copy for myself. I also like Stephen Fry.

He's a gay icon in the UK but his books are mostly non-fiction but, again, if you want to read good elegant English, I'd say his style (simple and elegant) is something that we should all try to copy. In the basement is all sorts of cult novels and you'll meet lots of cool people and famous authors, Oh, that sounds cool, but cult novels? I have no idea. I'll check this out. Neil (oh, I call him by his first name now!) is very good looking as well! OK, he sounds like perfect, looking good, wise, successful, it's unfair, man! I also like Stephen Fry.

He's a gay icon in the UK but his books are mostly non-fiction I thought he was a voice actor or something. I've bought the audiobook of Harry Potter and the Philosopher stone which he dabbed. Thank you for your recommendations!

Try and read The Minpins I see. Is this what you mean? I added it in my 'my wish list'.
