I've bought a TM 580XD this year and it's great having given me both more distance (30 yards when i connect well) and consistency. However I see that these as well as most other major brand drivers are likley to be non conforming in 2008 when the standardised COR rules come in. I expect i'll have upgraded (at least once) to the next 'miracle' development in technology but it strikes my there will be chaos in 2008 not to mention the bottom dropping out of the 2nd hand market once this becomes 'news' about a year out. Anyone any idea when the manufacturers are going to stop flogging these drivers in Europe and how we're all going to cope in 3.5 years time? For the record, Mizuno fell in line with the 2008 driver regulations from October 2003.The MP-001 woods on sale in Europe all conform to the 2008 guidelines.But, remember there are no restrictions on distance, only the repulsion properties of the clubface.There are many design routes to more distance. For most golfers the aim will be to change the physics of their ball flight.Generally a higher launch angle and lower spin rate will result in miles per hour being converted more efficiently into yards.Technologies that focus on ball flight characteristics are likley to have more benefit to amateurs than hot faces.A hot face can only improve your ball speed by a factor of what you already generate.
